HIStory 30

It’s hard to believe it’s been 30 years since Michael Jackson dropped HIStory, an album that was so much more than music. It was personal, and autobiographical, and deserves to be discussed SO much more! The Michael Jackson estate has paused their HIstory 30 project due to the biopic (according to a communication they sent out to the fan community). Friend of the show and music journalist, Chris Lacy, has taken matters into his own hands with an awesome article about the entire album and brings lots of context, fun facts and more on the album.

HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I came out on June 20, 1995, and reminded the world that MJ wasn’t just the King of Pop, he was an artist with something to say and he said it LOUDLY. Here is Chris’ article- a MUST read for every fan.

Now this week on the podcast, we took a deep dive into the HIStory era along with Chris, from the raw emotion in tracks like Stranger in Moscow and They Don’t Care About Us, to little discussed tracks like This Time Around and Smile. We unpacked the album’s legacy, the controversy, the cultural commentary, and the genius behind it all.

Whether you’ve been listening to the album since ’95 or just discovering it, I hope this anniversary inspires you to revisit the music, the message, and the man behind it.
