MICHAEL JACKSON & ELVIS in 2025- fans discuss the Estates, Biopics, Lisa Marie & More
The undisputed truth is that the King of Rock and Roll & the King of Pop have had one of the most LOYAL and dedicated fanbases of any artists in modern history. It’s 2025 and not only do their brands continue to generate hundreds of millions annually, their fanbases continue to grow. How and why do Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson both have growing fanbases and what is the state of the fandom for both of these legacy artists? If you’re interested in exploring the commonalities between the Elvis and Michael Jackson fan bases, how their estates and posthumous projects differ, & so much more- keep reading…
For this exclusive chat about the estates and posthumous projects of both Elvis and Michael, I welcomed to the show Those Elvis Girls- content creators, historians, and massive Elvis Presley fans. Those Elvis Girls have a podcast style channel that focuses on Elvis history and they frequently interview people from Elvis’ life and people who knew him best. You can check their channel out here.
Here are some of the topics we touched on and questions I asked them:
TOPIC 1- Posthumous Projects from EPE and the Michael Jackson Estate
A lot of the posthumous projects that have been released have ranged from full short film collection, to a video game, a couple of CDs with unreleased music celebrating anniversaries of big albums like THRILLER and BAD. There was unfortunately also an album that featured inauthentic tracks. Most notably, the Michael Jackson estate has focused heavily on projects that appeal to a GENERAL PUBLIC audience, like the wildly popular MJ the Musical & the Cirque Du Soleil show that has been one of the most successful permanent shows in Las Vegas during its 10+ year run. But it seems like a lot of the big fans want more and often express dissatisfaction. We discuss and review some of the popular and maybe less popular releases from the Elvis Estate.
TOPIC 2- GRACELAND
One of the ways I found the Those Elvis Girls channel was through looking into Graceland and Elvis week. As a Michael Jackson fan, we don’t have that central location, it would’ve been Neverland but due to zoning laws and other issues, it’s not feasible and isn’t under ownership by the estate. We discuss what is Graceland, what what it meant to Elvis, and what it means to Elvis fans NOW, in 2025.
TOPIC 3- LISA MARIE
Can discuss how MJ and Elvis’s lives intertwined as well!
Michael and Lisa were married from 1994 to 1996 - the King of Pop was the son-in-law of the King of Rock and Roll - so cool!
Lisa appeared in the ‘You Are Not Alone’ music video with Michael
TOPIC 4- STATE OF FANDOM
How do fans meet in each fandom? Are there still OG fans and brand new ones ? What are relationships like? Annual events (Elvis Week, MJ’s birthday in LV, MJ June Forest Lawn)
TOPIC 5- BIOPIC
Michael Jackson’s biopic is set to come out in October of this year. The ELVIS biopic from 2022 was a MASSIVE success and we round off this episode by discussing how, if at all, it had an impact on the fandom or on the general perception of ELVIS in the public.
